While walking down the street from my hotel, I came across a “golf club” which seems to be a pretty happening bar in the evening. I go home, get dressed in my Diesel jeans and going out shirt, and walk back to the club. It almost looks as if the lady at the entrance was about to ask me for money, or comment about no sneakers when she was interrupted. A man standing behind a desk in front of me says “Go! Go! Go!” very confidently, and points me to go up the stairs to the left. I go without having much of a look around. I get up stairs, I'm the only non Asian, and I ask for a drink menu. It's crazy, $50 items on the menu...I don't know what to think. And I look around, everyone is drinking Budweiser cans mostly. I try to order a cocktail (vodka tonic), but to no avail. Finally Stella from Hong Kong txt’d me back, with the Chinese characters. By the time I get it, the bartender asks if I want a Budweiser, I say yes. And after 3 go abounds, of me saying I only want 1, he gives me one, and charges what is a couple dollars. I'm confused, but I have a drink in hand, and I walk down to the end of the bar where a couple of guys have waived me over.
They speak English well, and explain that the more one orders, the cheaper it is, they have a bucket of cans and I may help myself... I explain that 1 beer is good, and with two I get a bit tipsy... The group behind me is making eye contact, and so I join their group, and ask them about the dice game. They get excited, and with no English, we play the game. It’s similar to yatzee, except for drinking. They pour Budweiser into a small glass, and tell me to drink after I roll lousy. I drink the glass, and the girl falls to the ground in shock. Apparently I'm only supposed to have a sip, with 4 sips or so per glass. This is a game I can play, and not drink too much at. I like it. We play, and for the evening, the “thing” to do, is play the game with the non Chinese speaking Caucasian. It's a riot, we all have a great time as one group to the next takes their turn playing. The first couple of guys who talked to me are packing up, so I say thanks, and wish them well. I also discover that the reason they order so many cans, is that its cheaper, and what they don't drink tonight stays on their tab for future visits. Fascinating! Eventually I am ready to head home, exchange numbers with a couple people, snap a photo of these two, and ring the gf as I head home. I leave a message, and sleep. On a positive note, the room as dried out immensely thanks to the A/C unit (the floor is now dry). A great evening, lots of fun. I like China.
